OLD Leadership Development Advisor
An excellent role for: A seasoned veteran in building teams & connecting teammates to achieve goals. Anyone with a passion for serving their community, who shares our belief that math is for everyone, and who wants to help YDM empower communities of young people with engaging math learning opportunities accessible to all students.
Time commitment: For this role, we are looking for someone who can commit to putting in consistent effort on a consistent basis, averaging at least 2 hours/week, in an all-virtual format with a flexible schedule. If you want to donate even more of your time, of course, that is even better and you’ll be able to help YDM progress our mission even faster!
Ideal candidates would have the following traits: Desire and ability to influence systems to change for the better; Interest & experience in mentoring & coaching less experienced leaders to achieve their potential as organizers in YDM; Desire & ability to network with people from diverse groups (businesses, colleges and universities, other nonprofits, etc.) in various communities to spread the word about YDM’s mission & leadership recruitment needs; Willingness to collaborate virtually with an all-volunteer team.
Role Expectations/Duties:
- Collaborate on Microsoft Teams with YDM’s Board of Directors and Leadership Advisory Board. Get to know your teammates and start to build awesome relationships.
- Familiarize yourself with YDM’s Leadership Team wiki and related resources to learn about YDM’s mission & vision and about our various teams & committees, including their purposes, goals, and needs. Support the Governance Committee with its team responsibilities in areas like leadership development and leadership team role succession planning.
- Help YDM’s committee organizers to develop their leadership skills. Serve as a sounding board and thought partner to help our committee leaders identify ways to overcome challenges. Help our organizers to foster collaboration & community in their volunteer teams, to maintain or grow enthusiasm & momentum for YDM’s work.
- Help YDM to grow over time as an increasingly youth-led and adult-mentored organization, where adolescents’ and young adults’ roles grow in number, prominence, and importance.
- Attend half or more of YDM’s monthly Leadership Team meetings. The routine meetings are set at a mutually convenient time for all LT members and are adapted to the schedule availabilities of our teammates.
- Take on special projects or assignments, as necessary and according to your interests and your schedule availability, to support the committee’s objectives.
- For this role, a specific schedule is not required. However, volunteers to be in-control of their schedule availability, and able to communicate when they’re available for collaborating together virtually with teammates. For leadership roles such as this one, it’s important that volunteers can be reasonably dependable about keeping appointment commitments, and can serve as a role models about communiating proactively with teammates when things come up that require an appointment to be rescheduled.
