OLD Outreach and Marketing Committee Vice Chairperson
An excellent role for: a seasoned veteran in Marketing or any applicable Outreach field, a young professional or college student wanting to further develop their leadership potential in Marketing or any applicable Outreach field, or a high school student with strong leadership skills wanting to gain some practical experience in Marketing or any applicable Outreach field. Anyone with a passion for serving their community, who shares our belief that math is for everyone, and who wants to help YDM empower young people and make engaging math learning opportunities accessible to all students.
Time commitment: 3 hours/week on average
Ideal candidates would have the following traits: desire and ability to influence systems to change for the better; vision & creativity to craft proposals / ways to move teams forward; skill in communicating with various formats to gather input / suggestions / buy-in from teammates; desire and ability to nurture leadership capacity of teammates while pursuing collective goals.
Role Expectations/Duties:
- Assist the chair: The vice chair should assist the chair in managing the committee and executing the marketing plan.
- Oversee specific projects: The vice chair may be assigned to oversee specific marketing projects, such as a fundraising event or a social media campaign.
- Manage communication with volunteers: The vice chair may be responsible for managing communication with volunteers who are helping with marketing and outreach activities.
- Research and analyze data: The vice chair may be responsible for researching and analyzing data related to the non-profit’s target audience and marketing channels. This information can be used to inform future marketing strategies.
- Attend committee meetings: The vice chair should attend committee meetings and provide input and feedback on marketing initiatives.
- Serve as a liaison: The vice chair may serve as a liaison between the outreach and marketing committee and other committees within the non-profit, ensuring that messaging and branding are consistent across all channels and activities.
- Step in for the chair: The vice chair should be prepared to step in for the chair if they are unable to fulfill their duties.
- Help cultivate an understanding of shared purpose among committee members. Help show the team what are the committee’s goals, why they are important to YDM’s mission, and how we are doing with our progress toward achieving them. Most other responsibilities of the chairperson and vice chairperson can be delegated to teammates, but cultivating the understanding of shared purpose, goals, importance, awareness of progress, and sense of accountability are the core responsibilities of leaders.
- Develop leadership skills. The vice chairperson should use the role as an opportunity to prepare themselves for greater leadership roles in the near future.
- Build strong relationships with teammates to foster collaboration and enthusiasm for our work.
- Share opportunities and responsibilities with the chairperson. Help the chairperson and other key committee members facilitate meetings. Help the committee keep aware of performance toward goals. Be prepared to step in and take on all chairperson responsibilities from time to time when the chairperson or other co-chairperson is on vacation or unavailable.
- Along with the chairperson / other co-chairperson, ensure active participation and involvement of teammates in decision-making processes.
- Take on special projects or assignments as necessary to support the committee’s objectives.
